“A case study in suspense.
Unputdownable. - Washington Post”
After reading “Angels and Demons” and all the bad reviews
about it, (haha! :P ) I started hunting for Dan Brown’s books. As a result I
ended up buying the books, “Deception Point” and “The Da Vinci Code”.
Synopsis:
When a new NASA satellite finds evidence of a rare object
buried deep in the arctic ice, the space agency is glad to announce their
victory after being unsuccessful for a long time. This finding becomes a great
influence for the upcoming U.S Precedential election. To verify about the
discovery the president sends the White House Intelligence analyst Rachel
Sexton, the daughter of the opponent, Senator Sexton to the Arctic. She is
accompanied by a team of academics including Michael Tolland, one of the best
science celebrities in America.
Rachel finds evidences of a trick played in the discovery of
NASA which brings danger to hers and the lives of her fellow mates. Running for
their lives, Rachel realizes that the only way to survive is to reveal the
mastermind behind this trick. This discovery which is about to change the
reputation of NASA and the history of the world is in stake! The truth will be
a great shock to the whole world!
Will Rachel and Tolland survive to reveal the truth?
My thoughts:
Well, this isn’t an adventure of the ‘famous’ Robert Langdon
and this incident doesn’t take place in a location related with ancient history
(which disappointed me L
). But still, the story fascinated me! With all the thrilling moments he had
narrated, I was glued to the book until the very end!
The main character, Rachel Sexton plays dual important roles
throughout the story. As an intelligent analyst for the white house and as the
daughter of the Senator, the opponent of the president. She turns out to be a
very strong willed, unbiased and a loyal woman. A woman who works for good and
for her country. I liked the way the author had described her feminine
qualities. Her fear for water and her fear for heights were a bit funny facts
in between all the serious stuff happened! Because she overcame all her fears
by the end as if she had none! Her will for living might have forced her to
forget her fears but that was weird for me.
Michael Tolland, the charming man according to Brown, have
been helping Rachel while her struggle to reveal the truth. A true companion
and a savior I would say.
The teeny weeny bit of romance didn’t fascinate me
either.
Even though I didn’t like the romance, I loved the way the
book flows. At the beginning I was feeling a little lazy to read the book. But,
since I knew the formula of Dan Brown, I kept reading and when the mystery
started revealing, I could not stop myself from reading. It was marvelous!!!
Dan Brown knows the dose! ;)
The climax was breathtaking! I felt like as if I’m in there
reaching out for help! (Joking :P) but it was indeed an “OMG” moment! I’ve
always loved the way Dan Brown narrates such scenes.
The book is full of deceptions just as the title says!! The
way he discusses few different aspects of the society is something really
important. Especially the political issues takes place in the modern society.
I’ll simply summarize it as “Power does not remain in the places where only
money is flooded. Winning the hearts of people is way more important!” Political revenges, trickeries and the
outcomes are well displayed throughout the book.
I enjoyed the concept of extraterrestrial life (or aliens).
It wasn’t the typical long headed, bubble eyed, freaky creatures. I really
appreciate that thought of the author. It was an out of the box kind of
thought. And as always this book of Dan Brown too contains so much knowledge in
it.
I recommend this book to all the science, thriller, mystery
and adventure lovers!
